Kodak Playsport - Kodak HD Camcorder
Kodak were the first to bring out affordable underwater cameras (that was a while back), and they've done it again with the Playsport which can shoot in depths of up to 3 metres. It shouldn't be seen solely as an underwater camcorder though, as it's sealed housing also makes it useful for a variety of climates and conditions. It is a particularly good choice for people who travel frequently and widely, as high humidity for example in the tropics can lead to lens mould. If you are staying at home, mud and rain are just two elements that will be less of a concern.
The camcorder is basically the Zi8 in weatherproof housing, it has a wide range of options which enable to make high quality videos that take advantage as features such as face recognition technology. Transferring your movies onto a PC or MAC are done via USBB cable. It does not have any on board memory, but videos and images are stored on an SDHC card, and with a capacity of 32GB, that is a lot of film - dependent on at what resolution you use.
With simplicity of design, and the ability for shooting full 1080p HD video in adverse conditions, this has to be a good choice for anyone who gets about a lot, but doesn't want to sacrifice image quality for the convenience of a water proof camcorder.

Kodak Playsport - Review
I bought this camera mainly because my daughter was going to Mexico on holiday and said that she hoped to swim with sharks and dolphins. I have used video cameras on an amateur basis for years but have never progressed to HD. Although she is not the best of photographers ('hosepiping' the camera all over the place) I can only say the results really are stunning. The brilliant underwater video shots of the brightly coloured fish are extremely good when viewed on my HD TV, the sound of local singers and guitarists etc. is excellent and the quality of the many still shots (too many) is exceptional. Some of the stills showing the colour of the sea and the sand are literally worth framing.The editing facilities which install when you first connect to a PC are adequate although basic. The only regret I have is that I bought the camera for my daughter: I want it for ME now. I cannot speak too highly of this excellent video (and still) camera, especially considering the price on Amazon. Mr. William Andrews
