Sony XDCAM EX3 - Sony HD Camcorder
Sony's PMW-EX3 is a fully professional HD camcorder for the serious film-maker. If you want to get ahead, and get established in the film-making world, then it is time to make the move to HD (if you haven't already). And, this is one of the most popular hand/shoulder held HD cams on the market for filmmakers who don't have a budget the size of Peter Jackson's. 140 minutes of HD footage can be recorded on a pair of 16 GB SxS PRO memory cards, but obviously dependent on what your are shooting you may need spares, and may also have to make sure that you have fully charged replacement batteries on hand.
The PMW-EX3 comes with the same imaging system as the PMW-EX1, which means that you get an effective pixel count of 1920x1080. Modes are switchable making it compatible with most formats and it has multiple frame rate recording. It comes with a purpose-built interchangeable Fujinon Professional HD ½-inch 14x lens and a unique dual focus ring mechanism, and the ½-inch lens adaptor allows for easy lens switching. As you would expect with a camcorder of this level, there are a lot of accessories available, and overall, its a great choice for a wide variety of filming situations, and at this price it's quite understandable why it's one of the most popular in the range.
